Operators: DL1IAO, DL2MEH Club Affiliation: Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) Equipment Description: TS850, homebrew symmetrical tuner, 2KW generator CT v9.23 on 486 notebook 2x42m Doublet @15m Comments: Best Sporadic-E ever heard in fieldday! However, this also resulted in otherwise poor DX propagation and less multipliers from outside EU. Best contact was VE1ZZ who called on 160 with a real S8 signal on a quiet band. It was interesting to find out how the Doublet would work when hung in north-south direction, rather than east-west as usual. BV, VK and caribbeans still were worked easily, so the radiation pattern is not as critical as predicted by computer model - even on 10 & 15m. Sure, Manfred climbed the tree real high, and the antenna simply could not hang any better on the hill! As expected, DL0LA/p gave us a nice race, but we actually finished slightly over their 1998 record numbers. One of the nicest fieldday weekends I can remember! |
