Club Affiliation: Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) Equipment Description: FT1000MP + Alpha87 CT v9.23 on 486 notebook 6el Yagi @24m Comments: I had hoped for good scatter condx and they were there! However, I could not find a beam heading which would allow me to copy signals during the first 50min - too much echo! In my despair I finally swang the 6el exactly to the south to attract some locals - and then it happened: Suddenly the echo was gone and I found myself working down a pileup real fast (see Breakdown). 2 or 3 times I tried to figure out if other directions would be even superior, but every time I did, the rate immediately died (slow rotor). The optimum direction remained between S and SE. A post-contest inquiry among other CW highscorers showed that optimum beam headings were completely different at the particular locations. |
